chuck_foreman1
Lucky You... It's small and cute and the Novar delivers nicely in the right conditions. There are a few variations on this model and designation. I needed a everready case for this/similar model and located one cheap enough .....when it finally got to me the clips that hold the camera in the case were not compatible... It'S kind of hit and miss with these cases. Good that you knew the "wind-on" secret. BTW the case engages the advance I'm still up for getting another though I have the successor model Contina II with uncoupled RF and the top model; the Contessa. While the Model designation 522/24 is on the body some have the name Contina on the front flap and others don't . Please post some results. Loved your girl and her dog shot and what's that semi-hollow body guitar you're playing there? I did already post these pics a few weeks back.... Oh well Encore.. Encore they shouted ...
JDMvW
Great. It's true that the Novar is not the best lens ever, but it does focus light onto the film plane  Especially if it's stopped down some.

I think these types of camera's are just neat. Gretsch 5420TG
chuck_foreman1
Thanks Mark for the feedback... so you have 4 of the first generation? Amazing how one begets another? I had my sights on a early one with the Schneider Kreuznach lens.. but it slipped away. I have another one in my sights but conscience and funds bear heavily down on me. I would like also the so-called 1b with the ZI logo on the left with "Contina" on the right. I'm also quite taken by the one model 1a/c with "Contina" written in cursive. Not so well versed in the Gretsch Models..sure looks nice.
winfried_buechsenschuetz1
It's true that the Novar is not the best lens ever made (and not the best triplet design - to me, the best of these is the Meyer Trioplan) but it is far from being the worst. Stop it down 1 or 2 steps and you well get decent pics. As far as I know, Zeiss outsourced manufacturing Novar lenses to several other companies - I have heard of Rodenstock, for example. This might be the reason that the Novars usually do not have serial numbers - would have been difficult to organize a sequence of serial nos. across several companies. chuck_foreman1
I have often heard Rodenstock put forward as the Novar ...outsourced product.. and I agree.. it is certain not the worst triplet design. Would Schneider have contributed ..otherwise...I mean they did supply their signature Xenar...fast 2.8 ..but maybe they also helped on the back hand with a standard product badged as Novar? What was the Munich Casa company? They're also a lens supplier for other companies so why not ZI AG ?

Has Zeiss/Ikon on the front and Ikonta on the back. when I get a little time I will run some film through both and try to compare.
