imaginationranch_photograp
Hi, all...I'm pretty much a rookie in photography, but learning more every day. My camera goes with me everywhere. The problem I have now is this; I inherited an Ambico tripod (a V-0543). Not really a problem, except that the mounting plate that came with it, the piece that attaches to the camera-- it has gone missing with the camera that was previously used with said tripod. a shame really...this is a NICE tripod in all respects, and I REALLY need a tripod! So, I thought, hey, no problem, call Ambico, get a replacement part. Well, Ambico has been bought out, and the compnay that bought 'em has NO replacements and NO intention of making any. Crud. I have been scouring eBay trying to find either THE plate that goes woth this tripod, OR a compatible replacement to use. I'm really having a hard time! Anyone have any ideas where I could find such a creature? Tghe tripod I have has a nearly square mounting shoe-- it is 1 1/2 by 1 5/8 inches, and about 1/4 in. deep. It is a quick release style. My camera (a Kodak Z700) has a mounting socket for a 1/4-20 screw (Kodak specs). I am at the point of creating my own replacement, and if anyone has suggestions on that sort of project, I'll take those as well! My husband and I have been looking at the whole situation, and trying to formulate a design for it. Well, thanks for reading...I hope someone can assist me with my dilemma! And while you're at it, feel free to view the few shots I've posted here. If you would like to see or critique more of my work, you may find it at www.buzznet.com (wildhorsemom), or at our family's album at www.webshots.com (imaginationranch). Thanks in advance for any and all help! ~~Laurie Smith
rob_murray
I see tripods like this all the time missing the quick release plate...Unless you find the exact one on Ebay your out of luck. Try www.keh.com they might have some in the "as is" section.

imaginationranch_photograp
Chris, I did finally find one awhile back. And like Rob said, I had to look on eBay. Took awhile, but I found one that worked. Now i can't recall if it was exactly FOr that tripod, but it worked. my advice is to keep hunting on eBay. i wish you luck! ~~Laurie
van_bagnol
I found myself in a similar situation; last weekend my Ambico tripod plate decided not to come home from a state tournament. I checked the Ambico website and the site is under reconstruction. It advised to call their 800 number which turned out to be a tech support center in the Philippines. The person could not help with a replacement plate other than advising me to go to my local dealer (Circuit City, which has filed for bankruptcy and has closed all its stores in my area).

The good news is that Velbon tripods have the same square-dovetail plate design as Ambico. I found a Velbon "Quick-Release Adapter QB-4W" which is the same size, 45mm x 45mm, as the Ambico one I lost, at a nearby Fry's Electronics this evening for $7.99. I'm buying two of them so that both the camcorder and the still camera will each have one.
10984380
Excuse the zombie thread, but I have an Ambico V-0540 and the mounting for the plate seems different than anything I'm seeing online. The sides are vertical, only the front and back are tapered. Measuring the widest part of the plate, the dimensions are 45mm x 41mm (L x W). Everything I'm seeing is tapered on all four sides. Will those work if I can find the right dimensions?
