Canon t70 battery terminal

I recently bought a t70 and upon bringing it home, realized it had the old, corroded batteries still in the terminal.

 

After some trial and error I finally got the batteries out and cleaned the terminals. The camera works now with two new batteries, but the problem is that the small piece that the battery door is supposed to click into has broken off (see photo - ignore the leftover residue), so the door doesn't stay shut. I can see that the camera works but the door has to be pushed down, not just held closed.

 

I'm bound and determined to get it to work somehow (elastics, clamps, something..) but wondered if anyone has any advice. I still have the small piece of plastic, and I'm debating super gluing it back on but I don't know if that would hold the door in place either. Thoughts??

 

I know that the t70 bodies are relatively affordable so if nothing works I may just buy another one.

 

You may or may not find this helpful. The latch on the battery door on the Canon AL-1 is notorious for breaking. Many use duck tape to keep the battery door closed. Another alternative is to drill two small holes on both sides of the latch and use a bent paper clip (or stiff wire) wrapped over the door to keep it shut. Not the best looking solution, but it does work. You may want to try something similar with your T-70.

One option would be to buy an inexpensive ready case on line, and attach the camera firmly via the tripod screw mount. A shim might be required to hold the door in place, but it should do the trick.
