sherwin_tibayan
Hi Everyone,
I bought this briefcase in Vienna a few years back at a flea market and have always wondered about its origins. The case is metal, painted on the outside with Kodachrome 64 logos while the interior is fitted with a grey even cushioning.
I always thought that it was manufactured by Kodak and may have been used to transport Kodachrome film but have recently entertained the idea that the case was the work of a third party or simply an enthusiast and has no relationship to the Kodak company.
Has anyone ever seen on of these or know about its original use?

jay_hector
I've had one of those since 1983. Mine is not briefcase sized, but it's probably a bit thicker than a briefcase, just narrower in width. I worked with a French press agency in France that year, and one of the owners had it and gave it to me in used condition, and I still have it piled in the garage. My KRBox has the film being suffixed with "P" for professional KR, and with the boxes saying "Made In France" so I'm curious what your filmcan says. I think it was just a Kodak press freebie at some point, at least in France. We shot a lot of Kodachrome then. Man, it was cheap in France then. About four bucks equivalent including Kodak processing for a 36 exposure roll.

joranrenckens
I have always wondered about it's origins too. But at least it's a cool thing to store my old Super8 stock and it fit's perfectly haha.
rodeo_joe1
Looks like some enterprising designer bought the printing plates from Kodak or their packagers when Kodak stopped K64 production. I'm surprised there aren't Ektachrome and Plus-X cases around as well. Although those wouldn't have as much cachet, if you'll pardon the almost pun. I'd guess the plates date back further than that-the last Kodachrome packages I bought in the mid-2000s looked nothing like that. It was basically the same box as Elite Chrome of the era, but with a red stripe instead of blue and the other obvious differences.
JDMvW
Maybe it helped at airport inspections? Anyhow, it's a keeper:)
