Last week I mentioned a newly fledged bald eagle chick. What is unusual is that their nest is in a suburban area in the San Francisco Bay Area, in a mostly residential area but is also right next to an elementary school, rather than in the wild. It is close to the SF Bay as well as some ponds and creeks, such that there is a large supply of food for the eagle family.

Last Saturday morning, the young eaglet flew into a small park, and from a distance, I took some pictures of her flying at low altitude. I understand that later on that afternoon she flew into some condo complex but unfortunately was found dead in the evening. Since bald eagles are a protected species, I understand that there is an investigation of the cause of death. This bald eagle couple have two eaglets this season. The other one is flying quite well by now.
