As the World Turns

Some of the places I've traveled to, no longer exist, at least under the same name.

 

Here is the capital of the German Democratic Republic, Berlin; but it is now the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.

 

 

Here is the largest city of Eritrea, Asmara, when it was a province of Ethiopia, now it is the capital of independent Eritrea.

 

 

And finally, here is Prague, then the capital of the Československá socialistická republika, now the capital of Česká republika.

 

How about you? Anyone been to the former Central African Empire or other "dead parrots"?

I have an illuminated Globe of the World I was given as a young boy, probably around 65 years ago. It is still in the corner of my Den, and even gets switched on occasionally. The changes are massive and astonishing.
