GlennS
I suspect eagles have been busy picking off goslings and this is the last one. The eagle photos Shun recently posted made me remember an unusual event a couple years ago here on Vancouver Island. An eagle was observed carrying a red tail hawk back to its nest. Everyone assumed the little hawk was destined to be lunch for the eaglets, but this wasn't the case. Mother eagle ended up feeding it and raised the hawk along with three eaglets. The hawk fledged and was acting like an eagle when later observed. Google ... "eagles raise hawk" to get the full story and photos/video.

bgelfand
On 5 May, one of the camera stores sponsored a vendor's fair at the Sacramento Zoo. Tamron and Nikon were both represented as well as Canon, Sony, and Sigma. Give the vendor's representative your drivers license and a credit card and you could borrow equipment. Return the equipment unbroken and there was no charge. Do not return the equipment and your card was charged full retail. I took my D750 and borrowed lenses. (And yes I returned the equipment. <grin>) Taken at the zoo with the Nikon 500 f/5.6 PF This picture of a "sleepy kitty' was shot a 1/2500, f/6.3, ISO 400. One sharp lens, if I ever guess six correct numbers... <grin> Not sure what I did wrong, but please look at the attachment: I cannot get it to show inline. ShunCheung
bgelfand, your original image is 6000x4000 and 2.7M in size. It is likely too big. I took liberty and attached a smaller version to your post. I assume you went to an event sponsored by Mike's Camera in Sacramento. Could you have taken possession of that 500mm PF? Not sure it was new, but it could be an easy way to skip the line to obtain that hard-to-find lens. I happened to buy my 500mm PF from Mike's earlier this year, but I went to their store in Menlo Park.

I happened to buy my 500mm PF from Mike's earlier this year, but I went to their store in Menlo Park. Hi Shun, Thank you very much for fixing the problem. Yes, Mike's sponsored the event. I went to test the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens, but no, I do not think I will purchase it. The Nikon tent was adjacent to the Tamron tent. They limited test time for the 500 PF to 30 minutes. As for this lens for the zoo, it was too long. That is why to image is a close-up. If I had stepped back all I would have had in the frame is the back of other peoples heads as they stepped forward. It was definitely a situation for a zoom. In any case, I cannot justify the cost of the lens for my amateur photography. On the other hand, I also had a chance to test the Nikon 200-500 f/5.6. I'll post those images in the next few weeks. If Nikon has the discounts again at the Holiday season, I will be sorely tempted. I am going to have to message Sandy and seek his opinion of that lens.
