LPL C7700 Pro enlarger issue

Hello all,

I have an LPL C7700MX pro enlarger that was bought in India in early 2000 (LPL C7700MX Dichroic Colour 6x7 Enlarger). It came with the appropriate Power supply designed for 220V (220V Power Supply for LPL 6700 and 7700 Enlargers). Now I am trying to put it to use in the US and to my surprise it turned on with the regular 120V wall outlet.

My question is: will the light intensity be any different with this arrangement, and should I need to purchase the 120V power supply for the same enlarger?

thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, the light intensity will be much lower, and more importantly for colour or varigrade use, will have a much warmer colour temperature.

IIRC the transformer that came with mine had a voltage switch in the base, but I can't remember if it covered 120 volts.

At worst, a 120 to 12 volt 100 watt transformer shouldn't be too expensive, and could possibly be fairly easily transplanted into the original LPL metal box. Or a 120 to 240 volt step-up transformer could be used before the LPL box, but I suspect that option might work out more expensive.

Mains/12v transformers are commonly sold for powering domestic downlighters, so it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to source one. It just needs to be capable of handling the 50 or 100 watt (can't remember which offhand) dichroic bulb in the enlarger.

BTW 335 dollars - even Canadian dollars - seems extortionate for a simple transformer in a metal box! A downlighter transformer is about 1/4 the price at most.
