Manual focus lens repair

Recommended Posts

Afternoon everyone,

I need a source for lens repair. The lens in question is an 85-250 Nikkor. I like this lens, for whatever reason it has a quality that I like very much and I use it whenever I can. Problem is the aperture has gotten sticky. I've tried a few things I read about here without much luck. I'd like to send it to someone who can solve this properly. I saw a thread here sometime back about some repair outfits but can't find it now. I'm in Alabama but don't care how far it has to go as long as it stays in the lower 48. Who is left that can still do this kind of work? Thanks.l

Contact "International Camera Technicians" in Mountain View Calif.

The owner is very honest and not making work. I brought in an old 80-200/4 lens for service. After a few minutes of looking at the lens, he advised me that the cost to do a CLA would not be worth it, and explained why. So I did not have the lens serviced, but I will go back again for other lenses.

Wow, I haven't thought about this in years.

When my FM was new, maybe a few months old, the shutter locked up.

ICT was the nearest warranty service place, which fixed it.

Also, they told me that at the end of the roll, before rewinding, finish the wind stroke.

(Hold in the rewind button, while winding to the end of the stroke.)

I don't know if that is the reason, but I never had problems after that.

Is it still the same people 40 years later?

Manfred seemed quite elderly when I last saw him about 5 years ago.

But it is his shop, so even with a tech working for him, he will likely still run the shop.

One problem with a sole proprietorship is you have to make your own pension/retirement income.

I have to have him take a look at an Olympus mirror lens and see if he can clean and relube to lighten the turning effort. The focus ring on the Nikon mirror has me spoiled.

My F2 is probably due for a servicing.
