Common terns.

I was on a boat photographing wildlife, and I was hand holding the new Nikkor 500mm/f5.6 PF lens. One issue I forgot about was to stop down the lens for more depth of file since there are multiple subjects. Unfortunately all three terns looked sharp enough in the viewfinder at the time but actually only the one on the left side is in focus. However, I was already using ISO 2500 and 1/500 sec. Stopping down would involve other compromises.

This is a sayaca tanager. The locals call it a Celestina. The colours are quite striking.

It is supposedly one of the more common birds here in Uruguay but this was the first time we saw one. It had run into a window when the sun was low. Fortunately, one of our dogs spotted it. I was able to get it upright for recovery and then I took a advantage with a few snaps.

We were very pleased when it flew away about an hour later.
