thomas_mcnamara
this is no big deal to me, but i have been using for years a fujifilm 8 gb card. but as of late, i have noticed that images i have uploaded to pc then later delete from card, images still show up when i put card back into pc. what is causing this? i do have two pc's. one is a dell with windows 10 os. other pc is a telekin aka senior pc. i believe maybe the problem i am having is because at times i put my card into my telekin to load photos, sometimes i use the dell. i could try formatting card, but i dont think it will correct the problem. camera i am using is a canon eos t5 rebel. any help or you need more info, i will reply back. thnx
Ken Katz
Everytime I begin a shoot I format my memory card in the camera and don't have any such issues. Of course I make sure that all previous images on the card are first loaded into Lightroom and then backed up on an external drive before formatting.
Sandy Vongries
Cards have gotten fairly inexpensive, particularly the smaller ones. I'd look for a good deal and pick up a few new ones.
DavidTriplett
Like Ken, I reformat my cards (in the camera) after I've made sure (Doh!) to save and backup the images. I've seen multiple recommendations for this so as to avoid unwanted, residual data.
rconey
I have found a few ways over the years to retain images on cards after download. Let see, Adobe asks if I want to erase images from card after download- can forget to check that option. It leaves everything intact. Ummm, my Nikon lets you lock images on the card, and the button to do so is in the left column of buttons so can be hit accidently. That leaves single images on the card until you unlock them, or maybe format the card. My personal favorite was when I forgot I had the dual cards set to "Main" and "Backup". I would take out the main card, download, erase images, put it back in. Then when I pressed Image Review, all the images were still there. It hurt my head for a few rounds until I realized the images were on the second card.
ben_hutcherson
My normal workflow is to first import the files into Lightroom, which converts them to .dngs to save on my hard drive. Then, I periodically go through and dump all my cards onto an external HDD as-is. I then sit down and format them in a camera before putting them back in my card wallet ready to be used again.
paddler4
Always reformat the card in the camera after uploading the photos and backing them up to another medium, e.g., an external hard drive or a cloud-based backup service. Good 16 GB SD cards cost $7-$9. If you have the slightest doubt about an old 8 GB card, I would simply discard it.
JDMvW
I'm not sure how you're "deleting", but maybe somewhere along the line you missed what (on a Mac) is called "Empty the Trash" The recommendation to get a new card is good, and (as said) it's a really good idea to reformat on the camera you are using it on. glen_h
I'm not sure how you're "deleting", but maybe somewhere along the line you missed what (on a Mac) is called "Empty the Trash" The recommendation to get a new card is good, and (as said) it's a really good idea to reformat on the camera you are using it on. More specifically, moving to trash moves them to another folder on the same card. "Empty Trash" actually deletes them. In some cases, a card formatted, or otherwise modified (files added or deleted) will confuse a camera, or other card using device. (I also have a digital audio recorder that uses SD cards.) Formatting in the device assures that the file system looks like the device want it to look. In most cases, you can add or delete files outside the camera, but best is to not use that card for normal camera use until reformatted. (Yes, most of the time it is fine, but you don't know when those times are.) I have notice that some programs add thumbnail images as separate files on the card, if I don't write protect it before using it on a computer. I usually write protect SD cards to prevent that. There are enough variations in the FAT file system series, that you can't be sure that all devices follow the same rules. -- glen
thomas_mcnamara
thnx for all the replys. i believe i remedied the problem. i formated the card as mentioned in earlier replys. i then put card in pc. pc then said no pixs to upload. wanted to put card with nothing on it to see if any pixs would reappear. nothing. if i have any further problems, i will return.
