Well. This is taking things up a notch:

More than the number of lenses, though, is what is behind them that makes the Xperia 1, according to the company, a path to redefine Sony’s vision, offering users a flagship smartphone for “creative entertainment experiences with unprecedented professional-grade technologies”. The world’s first 4K OLED smartphone with 21:9 CinemaWide display (6.5”) and HDR remastering technologies is there for one reason: Sony wants this smartphone to take motion picture to the next level.

What good is 21:9?

Some people like the aspect ratio. You can achieve this aspect ratio already in a normal 16:9 phone, by either cropping or using a 1.3x anamorphic lens. But a 21:9 phone will have, by nature, a larger screen and a wider sensor. It will also allow you to shoot 16:9 with a clean display, keeping all the shooting data displayed to the side.

But I don't like that aspect ratio unless you do a stitch or rotating panoramic, in which case the aspect ratio varies.
