Recommended Posts

Greetings all and welcome to our new thread. Post all the images you like from any film camera. I'll start from a roll of Pan F+ that I developed and scanned earlier in the week.

Midweek (wed) cabin fever sets in & I jump on The Bus & head over to the next town (Kailua) for lunch & a long walk-about with a camera. I grew up in Kailua, so it is always interesting to see, and photograph, the changes. This week the Isolette 3 was in the backpack. UFX400, Pyrocat HDC & V600 scans. It seems a little slow on the thread; where are all our regular contributors? I'll post four frames from a roll of Ilford FP4 Plus I shot yesterday with a Minolta XG-M and the 35-70mm Minolta MD f/3.5 lens. This lens seems have become a reference point by which similar short zooms are judged, and I have to agree that it deserves it slightly iconic status. The film was developed in PMK Pyro and scanned on an Epson V700 using Silverfast SE software.

The thread does seem a bit slow as Rick said so I'll add a few more, these from another well-regarded 35-70, the Tamron Adaptall.

Like the Minolta 35-70, the Tamron is also low in distortion. Generally speaking it's fairly easy to make a good performing lens in that range. I'm thinking of adding an Olympus 35-70 to my "stable" at some time.

Nice images, Rick. I got my first Minolta 35-70 in the early 80's as part of a package that also included a Minolta 200X dedicated flash. At the time wider range zooms were either very expensive or just mediocre performers.

Thanks, Mike. Your images show the quality of another of my favourites, the Tamron 35-70 f/3.5-4.5.(17a). I use it more often than the much-lauded Tamron SP 35-80 f/2.8 (01a) as it shows much less inclination to flare when pointed into the light. Excellent tones in your pics.

Thanks, Rick. The Tamron's quality and wide range of mounts are why I don't have a 35-70 for each system I own. No rush to buy the others although I've been eying an Olympus 35-70 f 3.5-4.5.

Regarding the Tamron, I like the way it focusing continuously into close focus range at the 70mm setting. I agree with your findings with the 35-80- mine also seems to be more likely to flare when looking into the light.

My Olympus inventory started in the early 2000's when my dad and I were going stock we had left over from closing the family camera shop a few years earlier. Every so often we'd find something (usually NOS) that we'd forgotten about. He gave me a new Zuiko 50mm f 3.5 Macro and a 28mm f 3.5. I bought a used Olympus OM-G to use with them and later picked up an OM-1 MD to go with them. Later added Olympus 75-150 f 4 and 35-105 f 3.5-4.5.
