susb9b13
Hi all, If someone has an old broken data back A somewhere at the top of a bookshelf: please PM me and I’ll buy it!
chuck909
I've seen plenty of used ones at KEH and E-bay for low prices, but I wonder why you'd need one in the first place for as far as I remember they can't imprint the current date.
JDMvW
Not that it really matters, but I have dim memory that some of the data and date backs on some of the old Canons are still active for a few more years. Unfortunately I have misplaced my files on this.
jim_bielecki1
Agreed, try KEH. The Data Back F, for the original F-1, stop counting accurate dates about thirty years ago. It does have a wide assortment of symbols, numbers and other stuff too. I did use mine a few years back and managed to find a combination of numbers and letters that made sense for the project I was doing.
JDMvW
As it turns out I was thinking EOS, instead of FD The quartz date back E for the first EOS models (620 and 650) is still good up to 2029 CE (LINK). The introduction of the EOS line goes back to 1987, so they were expecting long term use, I guess. :) There are links and information on FD backs at Databack MA For Specific Canonn A series Bodies Edited March 19, 2019 by JDMvW
mwmcbroom
I have a Data Back A around here somewhere that I'd be willing to give the OP -- you pay postage. But as I recall, it's totally obsolete. With the year wheel, I've seen them with two digit years ending from 88 to 95. I don't recall offhand where mine ends. Still, you'd have to get really creative with the limited number of additional characters it has in order to cobble up some sort of date system: Roman numerals I through X, lower case letters a through g, and numerals 1 through 9. It's beyond me how one would come up with a symbol that would be recognized as"19" (for this year, of course).
