mike_sowsun
I have never used "adapters" but I have done three mount conversions using the Ed Mika conversion kits. (one FL 55mm f/1.2 and two nFD 50mm f/1.4) The first two were brass kits but then he switched the mount material from brass to polymer. I like the look and feel of the brass mounts, but they are very heavy, and can also cause some interior light reflections near the sensor. On full frame Canon cameras like the 6D or 5D Mk III, the rear element of the nFD 50mm f/1.4 will interfere with the mirror if you focus out past about 25'. From min focus to about 25' there is no interference. I generally use LiveView for focusing, and that also eliminates the mirror contact issue . If the mirror does happen to contact the back of the lens, there is no damage to either the lens or mirror. (I have done it hundreds of times) APS-C cameras, 1D series cameras, or longer focal length lenses, don't have the issue with the mirror interference. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/_001.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/_002.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/_003.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/_004.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/_005.jpg Here is a list of lenses and the mirror contact possibilities: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/EdMika4a.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/msowsun/Photo17/EdMika4b.jpg
JDMvW
glass/lenses containing adapters are generally of poor quality It might be more accurate to say that they are not of the "best quality", but practically yes, The use for a glassless adapter is for close up and macro. Some people have found that useful
