joseph_smith3
Star Rankings can be changed when images are keyworded using View VX-i after star rankings have been applied. This is NOT supposed to happen and did not happen until sometime in late 2018. I first ran into this problem about three months ago and reported it to Nikon. It happens with the latest version of Nikon View NX-i that is downloaded in a package with NX-D. Nikon call it S-VNXP-180400WF-ALLINALL_.exe. It happens on my windows desktop running win 7 Pro. (I am not sure if it happens on my laptop that is running win 10 Pro. ) Nikon said that they test software changes against the latest version of the operating system. This is a heads up to any of you who use Nikon View to keyword or rank images. You need to be aware of this possible problem. I think it is time that I change to another program where I can imbed the info into the RAW images or add it to a sidecar file. My understanding is that Nikon uses .nksc files as their version of sidecar files. I am not sure if any Adobe products read these files. If anyone has better information about this matter please let me know. All thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.
joseph_smith3
I forgot to add this to the above. The reason why I add keywords as the last step is that if you do it first, it slows down the time for each image to load.
hapien
I do not use star ranking system, but sometimes I do keywording. It would appear that View NX-i writes keywords to image itself and also creates sidecar files. Photoshop Elements reads keyword info, probably from the images. However operating system search does not reach keywords given in View NX-i, so I prefer tagging images in windows explorer or image preview properties tool. I think image tagging came to windows in 7 if not in Vista, IIRC Xp was not yet there. Windows 8.1 has very nice search results display.
