Contaflex Super questions

Recommended Posts

Back in the early 60s my dad was stationed in Germany on the Pershing Missile base into the beginnings of the Vietnam War . While there one of the things he bought besides cuckoo clocks was a Contaflex Super. Having recently been reinspired to shoot for fun, not just work, I dug out my old film cameras and now that I have tested them all and got the juices flowing , I decided to give his old Contaflex a try.

Jumping the gun a bit I bought a 35mm 3.2 lens from ebay for 25 dollars without doing any research and later read that the 3.2 is for the later models and is not supposed to be the same mounting as the F4 version . However it arrived in the mail today and sure enough if it doesnt just bolt right on... Hurray.... But the web does say that its not supposed too. Am I missing something? Obviously I have not shot any film through it yet. Will it work?

And last question on that camera - If its 3.2 and the camera is still reading 2.8 , Do you still go by the meter ? or close down half a stop ? Or something else?

Obviously I am now obsessed with getting a working set up.

A second camera arrived and it is super clean but the shutter button is so hard to fire. I push it all the way down with two thumbs and it fires. All else seems to be working fine. If it wont fire with the button, then as soon as I open up the wind lever it fires.... WTF Am I going to break it even worse if I keep messing with it?

Whats wrong with me:cool:

I was searching for fliters/manuals/lens/ect. on evil bay and I won some filters that look to be the Proxar set of 4 close up filters. They were a little expensive (50somebucks) for not knowing exactly what the filters are for sure (not in the description, just seen in the photos) but they came with a Super camera /50mm, 85mm and 35mm lenses and all the manuals and leather cases and even the old school flash/bulbs .... Bit grimmy looking but for the price I figured Id take a chance on the body working and all the extras being usable. ;) Oh and I just got the Polarizing filter for 20 some bucks with free shipping. I sure hope I can get one of these cameras working.

I have too many obsessions now.

PS Dad passed away 20 years ago so I cant ask him any questions. Hope you dont mind me asking here...

I do want to get dad's camera fixed for sure.... The rest can be for parts if necessary ....

Oh I forgot to mention that my dads camera works great above 1/30th of a second. Below that the aperture/shutter stays open after it fires so it never stops letting in the light until you wind it again..... I either get it fixed or try some fast film so I can always shoot above 1/30th... I really just need to find someone who will fix them...
