bryaneberly
I recently purchased an Olympus OM2 and, just a couple days ago, stumbled into a Minolta MC Rokkor-X PG 58mm f1.2 lens for $30. I bought it with the idea that I could possibly find an adapter between the SR lens and the OM camera. Problem is that I cannot. Is it possible to locate an SR to OM adapter? I see plenty for the 4/3 mount, but that doesn't get me anywhere. If it's not possible, I can just spin the lens off for a nice profit, but I would like to use it if possible. Just thought I'd throw this question out here in case anyone has an answer.
SCL
Minolta Rokkors won't fit Olympus OM2 bodies. The Olympus register is 46.0mm and the Minolta is 43.72mm - not enough room for an adapter.
bryaneberly
Thank you for responding. It’s good to learn some new info, even if it’s not what I hoped to hear. I’ll just have to adapt the lens to my Pentax MX. Now, since i’m here, I have a non brand-specific question about the Minolta lens. There are two tiny spots of fungus in it and I would like to clean it out. Anyone know of a good place to send it for cleaning?
vincentoiseau
Hi Bryan, Buy OM lenses for your OM2; they're available in fairly large numbers and have excellent image quality. The 28 mm 2.8 is an example, as is the 50 mm 1.8 and the 100mm 2.8. You can get these and other Zuiko lenses for reasonable prices. On YouTube there are dozens of videos about removing fungus from lenses; check those before you pay a lot of money to clean a lens that you will not use too often.

I don’t trust myself when tinkering with an expensive lens, but will give it a look. I was hoping the lens simply would’ve replaced the Zuiko 50mm f1.8 MIJ I have for the OM2. As for Zuiko lens, in addition to the 50, I have the following: 24mm f2.8 35mm f2.8 135mm f3.5 200mm f4 I hope someday to sell the 50 and 135, replacing them with an 85mm f2. Aoresteen
Why not just buy a Mnolta SRT/XE mount film body? They are cheap enough. The 58mm 1.2 is a cult lens for it's bokeh. Don't sell it! Get a film holder for it instead!

Don't sell it! Get a film holder for it instead! I am looking for an XD-11 to hold it. I cannot stand the bulky sizes of the SRT series. Since we were on the subject of cleaning lenses, does anyone know of a good, professional place to send the 50mm for cleaning? Looking at youtube tutorials, I do not trust myself to clean the lens without breaking something. If I am going to use the lens, I want it cleaned correctly. Also, the fungus is on two of the inner elements and they require extra disassembly.

SR mount lenses need to sit about 2mm closer to the film, so you either get an adapter with a teleconverter element built in, or you loose infinity focus. Yes, I discovered that information while researching lens adapters. I've decided on purchasing an XD-11. Now to find a place that can clean the lens... petrochemist
I have to admit I now use mirrorless cameras for practically all my lens adapting. I still manage to find one or two that get tricky, but I can get infinity focus with nearly 99% my photographic lenses - 15+ mounts work, the CZJ Werra (rangefinder, with aperture in the body) lenses being the only problems. Most of my lenses can be used with multiple special adapters too (focal reducing/helicoid/tilt as well as normal) FD, SR, Minolta/Sony A & Auto 110 are my only SLR lenses that don't fit the fancy adapters. Non photographic lenses such as microscope objectives & microfilm lenses can be a bit more restrictive, but they're generally only wanted for macro anyway.

Some have give Ross bad review but in 15 years he has always done a superb job for me. He restored a fungus ravaged Rolleiflex f 3.5 that Harry Fleenor said was unrepairable (Harry later on put a Maxwell screen in it for me saying that the lens was very sharp), CLA'd a couple of Contaflex Super cameras that are very complex and few shops will work on. He has a couple of my lenses that need a CLA right now. 342 Kirby St Los Angeles, CA 90042 Highland Park Phone number (323) 256-1018 The other person I'd try is Eric Hendrickson at Home-Pentaxs. Eric services Pentax M42 & K mount cameras as well as the 6x7 & lenses. He's done a lot of my M42 lenses. Just did a superb job on my 50mm f/4 SMC Takumar macro lens. I don't know if he will work on it for you. But if he does it will be done right. Send him an email at: pentaxrepairs@aol.com Good luck!

I appreciate the the suggestions you, and others, have provided. It's something this forum does well with. I found some mention online of a "Recommendations" forum on the site, but it appears to have been eliminated. Therefore, I will leave this review here since, after all, this topic began here (though this is the Olympus forum). After looking around online a bit, I found Steve at Camera Clinic USA. He agreed to take a look at the Rokkor and clean it for $75, including return shipping. Nine days after being sent, the lens was returned to me in immaculate condition. All fungus, haze, and 99% of the dust was eliminated. The lens exterior was also very clean and the glass was spotless. I consider it a true professional job. This all took place before Christmas. Also, to pair with the Rokkor, I found a Minolta XD-11 which worked, but badly needed a CLA. Garry's Camera Service (I know he has mixed reviews, but his prices are cheap, as is the value of the XD-11 body) did a wonderful job tuning up the shutter speeds, cleaning it, and changing the light seals. After replacing the old, shrinking leather skin with a new one from Aki Asahi, the body and lens combination looks fantastic, and I cannot wait to pop in a load of film an try it out.
