PuntaColorada
"Another weekly challenge. If, anyone else would like to post next week please give it a go, upload a High resolution jpeg. Just indicate your intentions by Thursday or early Friday. Remember there are no rules you can do what you wish in your interpretation, please can you give information of the steps taken and software used to add interest. It is not meant as a competition just a bit of fun." (Gerald Cafferty) An early Happy New Year to all! Pyrotechnics seem to be a part of many New Year' s Eve celebrations, so here are some to play with.

Glenn McCreery
Added layer to image, copied image and inverted it, then pasted inverted image on new layer. Used NIK ColorEfex separately on each layer. Played with various blending modes, then rotated image 90 degrees and flattened.
mikehegarty01
Happy New Year to you Punta. Nice image. My entry was done in Gimp. I used luminosity mask to do a little bit of color toning.

JeffOwen
Hi PuntaColorada, I am curious about your photo. I took some firework photos and got very similar results. Did you take the shot on a tripod but leave the lens Image Stabilization switched on? The curly bits of of the burning bits all have similar tracks. Personally I like it. I like the curlies as well. There is also a bit of other wobble in here because my tripod was on a wooden deck that I was standing on.

Lots of things come to mind when I look at your image.
Glenn McCreery
Well, we humans tend to look for order in even completely random data. When I look at my horizontally oriented image I almost see a face, with the two brightest bursts representing eyes. When I look at the image vertically oriented, I see the costume of a Las Vegas show girl (or perhaps Carmen Miranda?).
PuntaColorada
Reduced gravity or helium pyrotechnics? It would be pretty scary if this is how pyrotechnics worked because the explosions would be much closer to the ground. Selected everything above the waterline, flipped it vertically and horizontally and then used a backing fill layer and masking to bring things together. Then did some hue/sat adjustments to reduce the colours I wasn't fond of. All in PS 2019. Maybe things will move upward in 2019!

michaellinder
Punta, what a dazzling image (no pun intended) for us to work on. All the different versions are spectacular as well. A very Happy New Year to everyone. All work done in PSE15, except for sharpening using Output Sharpener at the end. Inverted image, then did some color modification and levels adjustments.

tom_r
Here are two of my earlier attempts and an additional crop. Less abstract, but still freaky colors.

Gerald Cafferty
Hi folks, I admit to a lack of imagination (or effort). Opened in Lightroom clicked auto and jacked vibrance up to 100 and was pleased with the result so left it at that. It was a good photo to start with so maybe less is more.
michaellinder
I couldn't resist taking another stab at this. In PSE15, after changing the aspect ratio, I used levels to darken the entire frame, leaving only a hint of the fireworks. Then, I used the "accent edges" filter to give, especially, the smaller areas of color brighter edges. I then slightly boosted the saturation, followed with sharpening. Finally, I used the dodging tool to brighten some areas selectively.
