BeBu Lamar
In manual mode I would set the shutter speed first then set the aperture until the meter indicates +/- then change either the aperture or shutter speed for compensation. It helps if you know without the meter what the approximate exposure should be.
rodeo_joe1
Who are you talking to Bebu? Raczoliver posted this thread 14 years ago. I think he might have come to a conclusion about the F3 by now. Plus he's currently shooting a D850.
ben_hutcherson
And the LCD is as dumb in 2018 as it was in 2004 or 1984...give me an F2AS or FM2N any day. I'm also in the vocal minority who loves the F4. Even though @Russ-Suzanne still thinks that they need to find and dig up every old post about 1980s SLRs to comment on them...I don't know how may times I've seen that photo of an F3 with a 70-150 f/4 Nikkor... Dieter Schaefer
I don't know how may times I've seen that photo of an F3 with a 70-150 f/4 Nikkor Apparently not often enough to realize that it is a Kiron, not a Nikkor ;)
ben_hutcherson
Apparently not often enough to realize that it is a Kiron, not a Nikkor ;) Fair enough-I thought something looked off . Whatever the case, it seems a poor match yo an F3-especially considering how many superb MF Nikkors are out there.
Dieter Schaefer
Don't diss that particular Kiron lens - from all I've read it's excellent - and mechanically a lot more sound than Nikon's 75-150.
rodeo_joe1
Apparently not often enough to realize that it is a Kiron, not a Nikkor ;) - Yes, but it's got a genuine Nikon pale amber filter on it. You just have to ask - why? The filter probably doubles the worth of the lens though. Now that this thread's resurrected anyway; shall we all post phone pix of our F3s? Sandy Vongries
Strange filter in a zombie post - A 2 was typically used to reduce blue tinge in daylight color film used in the shade.

Sandy Vongries
Here - not an improvement me thinks Just kidding! Actually I have a GXR that I leave set up & mounted with a Macro module that I use for almost all shots like this - light is the same, camera & lens the same, dead easy. Sandy Vongries
- Gee! That's dedication to posting pix of old cameras. Don't see how I could do it with my M 3, or any of the film Nikons. In some circles the Ricoh GXR is old. In any case talking about an effective methodology not technology. :)
Dieter Schaefer
- Gee! That's dedication to posting pix of old cameras. Certainly more than I can muster! Most of the time I don't even bother with any kind of setup:
ShunCheung
It looks like I should take a picture of my FE, with my Z6 no less and my 43-86mm AI zoom. That would be a real mix of old and new. ;)
Dieter Schaefer
picture of my FE shouldn't it be an F3 instead of an FE?
ShunCheung
shouldn't it be an F3 instead of an FE? I suppose the picture of an F3 would have been more appropriate for this thread. But there is a minor problem, as I don't have (access to) an F3, and my PhotoShop skills, while adequate, are not at the master level to change an FE to an F3.

A lot of people who never had neither back in the days prefer the FE. While you bought the FE instead of the F3 I believe you're not one of those who think the FE is a better camera. ShunCheung
I bought my FE in 1978, the year that model was introduced, and the F3 didn't exist yet (not for another 2 years, for the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics, which was widely boycotted in the West). Later on when I was a graduate student, another student who had a day job bought an F3 (about $600 at the time) and showed it off to us. I looked at it with envy, but I was a poor student back then. At least I had some money to buy film for my FE.

erichsande
I'm a little bit surprised you were able to respond to your own original thread from 2004, raczoliver. I can log into my original photo.net account I started in 1997 but can't post anything from it. I had to create a new account when the site went through its big change awhile back.
