Karim Ghantous
Video: (7:21) Video and blog post: KODAK EKTACHROME BETA TEST | Benj Haisch | Seattle Wedding Photographer I really like it. It's probably less grainy than we are seeing, as very few labs use the best scanners (probably with good reason).
JDMvW
I'm looking forward to trying it out, probably after Xmas. Just before it was discontinued I had used one roll of the then Ektachrome. I was very pleased (as an old Kodachrome user) with how it worked. Then it went away.:(
Aoresteen
When they make it in 120 rolls I will give it a spin. Freezer is full of Velvia 120 right now.
ben_hutcherson
That's a nice write-up on the film. Their beta rolls look better than the scans that Kodak themselves supplied back this summer. Somehow or another, this photographer's photos are better than what I was able to take with the production rolls I've shot :) ...although the color palette seems similar to what I saw. I do think that E100 can fill the roll where I use to use E100GX-just as a good all around general purpose slide film. I still think the old Elite Chrome was better all around in that roll aside from being a generation or two older than E100G/GX and being a bit grainier. Still, though, I feel like most Ektachromes handle pasty white/pink people like me and most of my family better than any Fuji product(except perhaps Astia) does. I don't know if there's a BETTER E6 film for caucasian skin than EPP, and I think that Kodak kept that relic alive well past its natural life for that reason-I seriously doubt we'll ever see it back. I too am waiting for 120. Ektar 100 was initially available only in 35mm, and now goes up to 8x10. Perhaps the strong initial demand in 35mm will drive eventual roll and sheet sales. For the time being, though, I'm sitting on this small stash...unfortunately that's 4 120 rolls of E100G and 5 rolls of 220 E100GX...I'd like to have a lot more of those emulsions sitting there. Aoresteen
Nice stash Ben! If it will help I'll take the 220 film off your hand :) !
ben_hutcherson
Nice stash Ben! If it will help I'll take the 220 film off your hand :) ! Thanks and thanks for the offer :) Since I took it, I've added a few in-date pro-packs of Velvia 100 in 220, and also picked up another Hassy A24 back. 220 still isn't dead around here :) Aside from that, it was nice to "learn" TXP 320 on 220 before I cracked open the $2/sheet box of it...I really wish that Kodak still made it in roll film(or made TX 400 in sheet film). I've come to really like the 320 version, though, even though there's no question that it behaves differently from TX400. I need to try and get some more in 220... Aoresteen
I ordered 220 Velvia twice in the last 3 weeks on eBay from Japan. Both vendors refunded my money and said that they were out. Ugh! I'll try one more time.
