IMO, there’s little comparison between the abstractness of Michael’s photo and the lack of abstractness of Sanford’s. While Michael’s probably would not fit a purist definition of abstract, it’s clear how it could be chosen to be in an abstract forum. Sanford’s already said he mistakenly placed it here and that’s a position I’d stick with. There are abstract elements in Sanford’s photo, as there are in any photo ever made, but that doesn’t make it abstract, or even close.

Michaelinder, I can clearly understand the content of both photos. They are both impressionist representations of real life. Its been said that all black and white photography is "abstract". The bottom line, I stuck my photo in the wrong forum and am struggling to justify my error.

I appreciate your "confession." No worries.

Here's another image based on my OP

Michael, when I looked at your second version too quickly the first time, I thought it was a big improvement and did seem not only more abstract but like a more interesting photo. Looking just now a little more carefully, I see it was just sliced apart and pasted up and it became much less interesting because the cut and paste is so obvious and not refined. What if you attempted to harmonize it a bit more. It would still feel piecemeal and like a puzzle but could feel a little more organic. I can't say for sure what would work, but I'd play around with trying to align the two vertical black strips on the photo in the background with the two similar (but different) vertical black strips in the foreground section. Then at the left part of that foreground section, I might try to match the curve of the wall behind it. I might also try some blending in places. It could still look like a collage, which is fine, but there would be a less cut-throat approach to the cutting and pasting that might make the whole work a lot better.

I'm guessing that my postprocessing skills are not nearly as extensive as yours. So, I'm not sure that I presently would be able to do what you suggested. However, I'm grateful for the time you took to provide very helpful suggestions. And, by the way, I fully understand and agree with your observations about my image looking just like it was cut and pasted. Thanks so much.

PS I would love to see your work. Since I didn't find any on your portfolio, can you you please steer me to another where perhaps your work can be viewed.
