Panasonic DMC-GX85 Refuses to Fire Sometimes

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My GX85 eventually stops displaying autofocus boxes or making exposures when I am in the midst of taking a batch of pictures. I press the shutter button and nothing happens. Then I turn the camera off/on and this resolves the problem until the next time. I use live view exclusively and mostly an Olympus 17/1.8 lens. Shutter is configured for half-press and either mechanical/electronic or electronic actuation only. I changed the settings to allow exposure without locked focus but doing this made no difference. I think this problem occurs most frequently in low light but it could be that that's because I take most of my pictures in low light.

I can't tell if the camera is faulty or if I simply need to change a setting somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be going on?

Thanks.

Sure sounds suspect.

Check special settings or effects.

Manual, 1/60, 5.6, center focus w/ tiny box.

Good light and contrasty target.

Sometimes my focus point gets moved inadvertently and I have issues similar. I've toyed with turning off the touch screen, but I like the eye-level focussing wizardry.

At least when it works, which is 95% of the time.

Thanks for the reply. I will try your suggestion. I notice that when the problem I described is occurring none of the usual lines or grids or other indicators that I have the screen configured to display are actually displaying. So perhaps there is a software or hardware issue.

This happens to me too. Inadvertently touching the screen moves the focus point. So does my nose. Camera won’t focus on anything and therefore shitter button is useless. A quick touch to center focus point does it. Annoying.
