W/NW Pic-O'-The-Week #49

Recommended Posts

Well, Billblackwellphotography, bravo. Your capture of contrast is exceptional. And Sergio_ortga|7, really like your shot. You've balanced the light well, and captured a moment. So, my shots from the week. All taken (and I apologise for 'hogging' the space) at my spouse's and her son's carers Christmas gala. My spouse's late age son has 'global developmental delay', though, of all her children, I think he is the most mature and sensible. Late age marriages are a task. But I ramble. So the shots, all with a monochrom m, 50mm summicrom collapsible, and a flash. The first is of my wife and her son - the theme of the night was circus: he's supposed to be a ringmaster, and she a ringmistress. The second, one his carers. The third, a carmen miranda lookalike. The fourth, a young man, trying to be a clown. Finally, a young man who also attends my wife's son's day care program ('House with no Steps'), which he likes to call 'going to work'. Indulgence for the excess is requested. Look forward to further photos. Some lovely photographs. Billblackwellphotography, I would give my eye teeth for your control of contrast and saturation, as I would of your's Bill Bowes.

Rick_van_Nooij, they are good shots (although I was a bit dismayed by the deep frown of the person on the right of your first shot). Tell me a bit more about your images, their context, how Remembrance Day is remembered where you are - not sure where that is (I have seen some other shots of yours, here and on other sites, of, apparently, what appeared to me, people re-enacting WWI/II events - not sure) if you would. Look forward to more of your photos Rick_van_Nooij. Arthur (apiarist1)

Cheers for the replies everyone.

This particular Summarit suffers a bit of glow and slight reduced sharpness in spots compared to an absolutely pristine specimen I keep on a IIIf, or my Xenon that is married to a wartime IIIc. Of course the Summarit/Xenon formula isn't known for its super sharpness to begin with.

Arthur, May 4th is our national remembrance day for all those who died in World War 2 (initially) and all other conflicts the Dutch were involved in that came after. At 8 PM the country grinds to a halt and holds a 2 minute silence. We celebrate Liberation day on the 5th of May.

I cover a lot of Living History and re-enactment events with vintage cameras, usually in matching period uniform.

Thanks, Rick_van_Nooij. I like the 'yours truly' shot (is that you?). Memory is such an elusive thing. How was it said about memory (I think in blade runner): moments lost in time, like tears lost in rain. I have a IIIf with summarit closeted away. I will get it out this weekend. Apart from our Anzac Day memorial/celebration, we here in Oz do not do much else. We were pretty much insulated from the European wars, at least domestically, though many ozzies died in WWI (dulce et decorum est pro patria mori). Less, I think, in WWII.

And do not discount the xenon. I have a couple of retina IIc's -the lenses are gun sharp. Thank you again - I've now 'pictured' you. Keep the images coming. Regards Arthur (apiarist1)

Yes, that's me. Small correction, it was taken with a Nikkor-HC 5cm f/2, not a Summitar, on the M-E.

The Xenon 5cm f/1.5 does get pretty sharp, stopped down to f/5.6 and beyond. But wide-open I think Leitz (or more likely Schneider-Kreuznach) took it a stop to far.
