bryaneberly
Hey everyone, I have an Olympus OM-2S Program that is missing something. Looking toward the front of the camera, there is a small light/meter thing-a-ma-bop on the bottom left, beside the lens mount. Other OM2Ss and upward have a small red lens covering it but the cover is missing on mine. Anyone have any info on what it does and how necessary it is? I have googled the problem but cannot find any info concerning its use. Thank you for any help! Bryan
John Seaman
I don't have a Spot Program now but I think this is just a red lens covering the LED which should light up with the battery check, or flash during self timer operation. It's not going to affect the general use of the camera.
crumbo
The cover with the red lens is over the switch that sets the electrical self-timer (tab away from the lens) and silences the "beep" (tab toward the lens). Without it, it's easy to accidentally move the switch (with the cover in place, the tab must be slid upwards to unlock and move the switch in or out). There is also a possibility of light leak. I'm loathe suggest it, but you might want to cover the opening with opaque tape.
