(N)Evereready case for FX1

Recommended Posts

Recently a member was looking for advice on how to adjust the meter in one of these early autometer models. Mine works ok... thank god.. knock on wood etc. But I was reminded of my ongoing dilemma.

I am unable to find an everready case for the Yashica FX1

Although there was a complete (very ..too long) thread on the advantages and disadvantages of these cases ... I myself, like them. I find it protects the cameras from bangs and nicks especially if you have thrown a bunch of cameras together in a tight place etc.

So I'm looking for such a case for an FX1.

Much to my chagrin, the tripod mount screw is off center. I thought maybe other models might share this "attribute" but I may have to accept defeat. Since I have some of the concurrent models other then the Electro 35 series, I have/know no other compatible models to look for a substitute. The FX series is somewhat compatible AFTER this model ie 2,3,7,D etc. The Lynx Series is very different, ie smaller but centered (70mm from edge) and the TL series amazingly clsoe/same as to the LATER FX series.

I'd be interested in the bottom approx dimensions of the FR or the FR !/II. as well as the Electro 35/G series.

I have the lesser TL model (without the automation) but I assume they were all the same construction.

Both the TL and the FX series share the same physical size. When turned over and measured from the left; the mount screw is 76mm for the TL and the FX2, however for the FX1 it is 82mm. So it'S 6-8mm difference.

So any info on availability or compatibility is welcome.

Hey Sandy.. thanks for the idea.. I guess I could do that. I was thinking more in the line of synergies.. as the manuf likely had other compatible cases?? That could work .

Many people see them (everready cases) as the cause or the preponderance of mildew and rot. I think it has more to do with the environment and the care. Sure a 50 year old leather case is likely no longer pliable. but they can be restored somewhat. The straps become quite vulnerable and indeed are a real danger of breaking at a critical point.

Quite a pile there JD..

MY environment is near perfect. It is neither too damp or too dry here. I also keep a lot of silica packs in and around the storage of the cameras. I also ...like many.. tend to rotate the cameras around and this keeps them from rotting in the cupboard completely. Whenever I acquire an old case I typically treat it with Effax. This does seem to penetrate the leather and preserve it. It's not a fountain of youth but it treats the leather. I put it on a bit thick and after a week come back and wipe any excess off. I have and will do it again in a year or so.

I agree on the (n)everready cases - I never stored cameras in them, but they gave a lot of protection. Never had a mildew issue The bodies of the cases generally hold up very well, sometimes applying Pecards Link https://pecard.com/shop/antique/antique-leather-dressing/ will do the trick with the straps. I have also replaced case straps with proper color newer camera straps - virtually invisible.

I’ve looked for one on e bay too (it was me that had the meter issue- now fixed:)) but I’ve had no success. It was a short lived model, so I doubt there are many cases, as there aren’t many cameras. I have several CCS camera cases, which are excellent, and can be had on eBay in the UK for about £10. CCS Blue Digital SLR Camera & Zoom Shoulder carry case Excellent condition | eBay
