BeBu Lamar
According to DXO the 35mm f/1.8 DX is about as good as the 35mm f/1.8 FX when used on a DX camera but a lot cheaper.
rodeo_joe1
According to DXO the 35mm f/1.8 DX is about as good as the 35mm f/1.8 FX when used on a DX camera but a lot cheaper. - It easily resolves 90 lppmm wide open on a D7200 across the centre 1/2 of the frame , and reaches at least 100 lppmm when stopped down to f/2.8 and below. Not quite as 'snappy' as a 50mm Ai-s f/1.4 at similar apertures, but still plenty good enough.
DavidTriplett
+1 to the 35mm/1.8 DX for the D3400. High value, low cost lens that significantly outperforms its price point. I would also offer that the D3400 would perform very well on interiors using a Tokina SD 11-16 F2.8 (IF) DX II, which is available used at very reasonable prices. Mine is still the go-to lens in my bag for interiors, where UWA lenses are a must. It tends to be much more affordable than many other options, and is "good enough" for all but the most demanding work.
