10971507
Hi I would like to identify some black and white 35 mm negatives l have. The edge of the negative says kodak safety film 5060. I want to know what the film was marketed as ,the film speed and date first made and date discontinued. A tall order but l hope Thanks Chris
William Michael
As far as my reference library exists, there are two possibilities and any historical evidence in the scenes or the camera used or the age of the Photographers will assist to determine which film it is. The former mentioned below is the replacement for the latter: Kodak Panatomic – X 135/36 AKA: “Kodak Panatomic-X 32 FX”, “Kodak 5060/135”, “Pan-X”, “Pan-X 32” Suggested ASA Rating: 32 Introduced: circa 1960~62 Discontinued: circa 1989 Kodak Panatomic-X AKA: “Panatomic –X Code 5060” Suggested ASA Rating: 25 Introduced: circa 1945~48 Discontinued: circa 1960~62 WW REF: (various) Kodak Professional Manuals, (My Library).
10971507
Dear William Michael Thank you so much for the excellent response. My records show that l used the film in 1986 which matches your first suggestion. Chris
JDMvW
A Google™ or two will reveal Kodak listings (and other manufacturers as well) of the 'numbers' of their various films ---often on the margins of the film. Even Wikipedia has some lists of film IDs or gives numbers under the entry on various films. Edited October 27, 2018 by JDMvW
