Nikon Z7 in Stock at Amazon, Adorama

While not all combinations are available just now, at least the Z7 is in stock in some form:

At least we are not experiencing the same kind of shortage as the D850, in the US.

But Z is a brand-new camera system with a very limited number of native lenses at this point. Therefore maybe demand is not high yet.

In the case of Amazon, it is sold by Amazon themselves, not some third party.

I just had a look; in the UK, WEx and Park both have the Z7 body-only in stock (with more coming in). It looks like not so much with lenses just at the moment, though, which might stall the sales of those bodies a bit. I'm not spotting it on Amazon UK right now, though. D850s are still in stock, although likely not at prices that US customers would enjoy.

Well, maybe we'll see some rebates on the Z7 when the holiday shopping season comes along. ;)

Last month, during a local store's Z system launch event, if you pre-ordered, they would throw in a 64G XQD card and an extra EN-EL15b battery, plus a Hoya protection filter if you were getting the 24-70mm/f4 S kit lens. Obviously there is a difference between their cost and retail prices for those "free" items, but that would be like $200 or so off.

Dieter, how much were they asking in your currency?.. and did that include the adapter?

If I'm remotely interested in FF mirrorless, it's in the Z6 and adapter kit, but Amazon UK are asking £2200. I'll see how the reviews are regarding AF speed etc and whether it will fully co-operate with the Sigma 135mm 1.8.

w/o FTZ adapter, z7 with 24-70: $3996.95; w FTZadapter, $4146.90 (after $100 rebate). (+8.75% tax if I were to buy local). Body alone is $3396.95.

Z6 is $1,996.95 ($2,146.90 with FTZ, $2596.95 with lens, $2746.90 with lens and FTZ).

So the Z6 with FTZ and with local tax would come to: $2334.75. Your £2200 are currently $2913.42.

I will probably be switching to Nikon from Canon as soon as the Z6 comes out(things might change in the future) due to the fact that the Z6 has a Joy-stick and in-camera image stabilization. Both cameras(Canon R ) are great and have their good points, I would take both if they were free, but I think that with the in-camera image stabilization Nikon can design much smaller(cheaper) lenses instead of the gigantic monstrosities they have been designing for DSLR's lately. Also the Joy-stick is very important to me, even more important than the flip-out screen that Canon offers. If you look at both cameras, the Canon looks like a small version of a DSLR while the Z6 looks like a padded Sony AR which looks more like a Range-finder. This is not a deal breaker, but to me Nikon cameras usually look better, more professional than Canon cameras for some reason ? I have a bunch of old manual Nikkor manual lenses that are collecting dust in my closet that I would like to try out, so again the Nikon wins. I'm not going to sell my Canon gear on eBay anytime soon, but I always wanted to have a two camera system just to satisfy my curiosity on what the other guy is doing. No more Canon vs Nikon wars for me !

I think it is premature to buy into a new system simply based on the first generation bodies. Even though the Canon R doesn't have in-body vibration reduction, perhaps the R2 or R3 may have that feature, although the real issue could be Canon is blocked by some IBIS patents. Keep in mind that the Sony mirrorless cameras also didn't have IBIS until the second generation. Likewise, even though the Z6 and Z7 only have one memory card slot each, and it is an XQD slot, the next generation could be back to dual slots, especially when Nikon introduces a pro model down the road.

What I don't like about Canon mirrorless is that the R and M systems have different mounts. It is hard for me to believe Canon has made such a critical error. I shoot both Nikon FX and DX. It is a huge negative that the FX lenses cannot be directly mounted on DX. (Since Nikon doesn't have APS-C mirrorless cameras, Nikon will still have a chance to screw things up big time as Canon did.)

Otherwise, if you have a bunch of Canon EOS EF-mount lenses, I would imagine you can adapt them onto Canon R or Nikon Z alike, although Canon adapters will likely work better. I don't like the fact that the Canon R has only one memory card slot and it is SD, but again that is a "temporary" issue only for that one camera model.

There hasn't been much chat about the IBIS in the Z7.

A non VR 400mm 2.8 via FT-Z on a Z7 seems a cheap way to get a very expensive ability!

I wondered briefly (!) whether you could get a twin slot SD in the width of a single XQD slot. Back to back, ie contact pads OUT there's plenty of space.....:)

The Z7, 24-70 and 35/1.8 S seem to be in stock also in Finland. I went to try them out, the camera feels very much like a super lightweight D850 in the hand; the grip feels great and the main buttons that I would use are where my fingers can easily find them. I was impressed by how solid the camera and lenses feel. In general I got a positive impression of the camera, especially with the 35/1.8 lens. The autofocus seemed to work perfectly in the store lighting. However, one clear problem area I did find which is when the EVF image is zoomed-in, the presented image in the viewfinder jumps around as I turned the camera, it wasn't at all smooth. I think this is a major issue that Nikon need to address. However, when the viewfinder live view image was used without zooming, it felt very good, it was sharp and there wasn't any of the usual flashing, flickering, artifacts etc. that I'm used to seeing with EVFs. I can still see the pixels though and it is very obvious it is an electronic image but it was still an improvement to what I've seen before. But Nikon really need to do something to the zoomed-in live view image.

Somehow the kit: Z7 + 24-70mm/f4 S is available at several stores, but the FTZ adapter is not in stock currently.

The EVF is quite good, an obvious improvement from mirrorless cameras 2, 3 years ago, although I assume the latest Sony and Canon also have good EVFs.

B&H now has the Z7 with the 24-70mm/f4 S kit in stock:

Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens 1594 B&H.

I saw that, good to see they are filling the supply chain. Lensrentals also has the Z7, 24-70 and 35mm 1.8 available to rent and I am a bit tempted just so I can see what the mechanical shutter sound is like compared to my 750, 850 and Leica M10.

I ordered the Z6 because that is more what I need in this realm, I have a nice new FTZ adapter sitting here all lonely.

Err, how did you end up with an FTZ adapter with no body?

I thought they were much, much cheaper when bought with a bod?

Curious I am.....;)

I had originally ordered the Z6 and FTZ adapter but re-did the order later to include the 24-70 so it changed the way things are to arrive. This is an NPS order so they got the adapter out quick, now just waiting on the Z6 and 24-70 which will likely be around the end of November. I did get the $100 discount on the adapter by the way.
