JPDupre
Good night everyone, I am planning to upgrade my computer (8 years old i3), mainly to run Lightroom and Photoshop, with a huge collection of Canon Raw files (from 10 to 30 MG), and larger TIFF files (up to 200 MG). Any comment on this configuration in a HP computer (Windows 10)?: 3.6 GHz 7th generation Intel Core i7-8700 six-core processor, 16 GB DDR4-2666 of SDRAM, 3 TB hard drive, 256 GB solid state drive NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with 3 GB Thank J-P
scott_eaton5
Hasn't been an i7 made that didn't excel at this task. Mine is 5years old and chews through anything I throw at it thanks to high core efficiency. If at all possible try to load your program and apps on an SSD and use the spinner for bulk storage. The performance improvements are dramatic and SSD prices are due for yet another drop.
bgelfand
It looks good. I build my own computers so I would make a few changes. 1) A larger SSD - at least 500 GB; a 1TB drive would be even better. SSD prices have dropped precipitously in the last few months and are projected to drop even more. Be sure the SSD is an NVME drive with a 4 X PCIe 3.0 connection. Larger SSD are faster and last longer. 2) A second internal HHD. Windows 10 has a History function the backs up your files continuously. You should have a second internal drive for that purpose. This will protect you against a drive failure or "tripping over your fingers". It will not protect against virus infestations. I also take periodic systems images to second drive "just in case" (protects against Microsoft's updates. 3) An external HDD via a USB 3.0 connection. Take daily backup using SyncToys. 4) I think the graphics card is over kill. You can cut way back on that without losing Lightroom or Photoshop functionality and save money for the above enhancements. The above is just my two cents worth. bgelfand
Just another quick thought. If you can, wait a month-and-a-half or so. The Holiday season sales will start and prices will drop.
brian_niemi1
My computer (desktop), which is almost 2 years old(I bought it during the holiday sale season), is very similar to the one you are describing, but not quite up to that specification. The processor is an i7-6700/3.40GHz; NVIDIA GTX 960; 16 GB RAM; 256GB SSD; 2TB Hard drive. I also use it for editing RAW photos in LR and PS. I am pleased with the performance and speed. It was a huge improvement over my old laptop. Good Luck!
