arthur_mcculloch2
My excessive contributions are driven by a new lens purchase: a second hand 7artisans 50mm f1.1. Shots taken on a M type 240, just the b&w jpegs. It's an interesting lens, cheap as chips (I paid second hand about US$200 for it - at that price, it's a throwaway. No re-sale value at all. It came boxed, almost unused, and with a focussing kit - which makes me worry about the QC in its construction). These shots are are at f1.1, soft, spongy at the margins, poor flare control, contrast sloppy. By f2, the centre cleans up, corners, ah well - it's bangs for your bucks. It peaks about f5.6, and is the same from there on. Still for about 30 times less than a noctilux, dollar wise, I'm laughing. Regards, Arthur, apiarist1 (and sorry for hogging - the shots are imbibers at my local pub - with the worry that I'll be seen as a pub crawler. All men. Strange thing, in Oz, the beer marketers never really understood gender equity, or tailored their marketing to the other half of the population. So it goes). Thanks for the indulgence.

arthur_mcculloch2
Never blame the lens, michael_levy|3. You took the shot; you deserve the kudos, or blame. Your's is good. Look forward to other shots, from others. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1).

arthur_mcculloch2
And, I'm exploring this 7artisans lens, today. So a few more shots from today (ahem, again at the pub). I am warming to this lens. And Moving On - please explain (as a fractious politician here in Oz would say). And a woman!! At the pub - documented here. I think the brewers in Oz missed their mark. Anyway, I'm coming to like this cheap as chips Chinese lens. It's doing good. It has an immaculate close focus. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1). And I'm off to the pub for tonight. LOL.
arthur_mcculloch2
I've really got to nail its focus. Using the EVF is probably the best way to go. But for what it cost me. LOL.

allancobb
Allencobb, great shot. And victor_gruber, bravo. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1). Thank you Arthur. Nice portrait work with the 7 Artisans lens! Your results are quite tempting for a future purchase... just wondering, are those lenses 6-bit coded? arthur_mcculloch2
Thanks Uhooru. Enjoy your break. Sounds like a trip to somewhere exotic and very isolated. Allancobb, yes its coded for the 50mm noctilux (I have disabled the lens detection). For the price I paid for it, I'm laughing. But my evening foray to the pub did not produce very sharp results. Perhaps the day's accumulated happy juice, or just fading eyesight. The lens does need, at wide open aperture, an EVF to nail the focus, and even then it's iffy. Here's a late night example of my intoxicated folly. I'm almost embarrassed to post it. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1)
