Vincent Peri
I have 2 Pentax Spotmeter V meters. The readings between the two are different by 2/3 stop. My question is, can I use the adjustment screw to correct the exposure readings in the meter that's off? I ask because the instruction manual say you use the screw to center the meter needle on the little black circle in the lower right of the viewfinder when not taking a reading. It says nothing about using the screw to correct for readings that are off. If you do use the screw for correcting the exposure in the meter that's off, then the meter needle isn't centered on the black circle. What to do... what to do...? LOL I did find a place called Quality Light Metric 7095 Hollywood Blvd Ste 550 Hollywood, CA 90028 that is supposed to be a good place for getting light meters repaired. Has anyone heard of them... opinions? Thanks.
BeBu Lamar
No! The screw is to adjust the natural unpowered state of the meter movement. You can not use it to calibrate the meter.
AJG
You could just set the ASA to 2/3 stop off on the meter that's wrong as long as it's linear in response to different light levels.

BeBu Lamar
The black mark is where the meter needle should be when there is no power applied to the movement. The screw is only for this purpose. For calibration purposes the current that makes the needle moves is adjusted via potentiometers on the amplifier. By turning the screw, I can get both meters to give the correct exposure (compared to 4 of my F3HP meters). What's the harm in that.
John Seaman
But do they agree at different lighting levels?

Do whatever you want that works for you but if I have tech calibrate my meter and he does it that way I would want my money back. To check calibration with a known good meter you must compare them at least at 14 and 9.

Okay, I tried that, and they're off. I'll be sending them to Quality Light Metric for service. Thanks for all the help.

When I posted the link I couldn't access it because my work computer considered it a dangerous site.
