My favorite quote from the article:

 

When he photographed Eisenhower, he recalled, many of his colleagues relied on their newfangled gadgetry while he patiently waited for an unanticipated opportunity.

He was, as he says, primarily a storyteller. Looking through more of his photos (see link below), he used perspective a lot to tell his stories, including a great sense of emphasis and an ability to weave plots and subplots by unfolding expressive backgrounds throughout his work. He didn’t hesitate to capture a pretty full picture.
