A BASIC Discussion of Memory Card Types and Terms

Recommended Posts

Interesting article. Speeds are important but not many people realize how many flavors there are for each device. Read Write speeds vary so greatly too.

I was shopping for a new MicroSD in 8GB size. The C10s are rated for 10MBs Write/45MBs/ read, while the UHS1 is rated at 10MBs Write, 90MBs read. I found Polaroid Micro SD C10 UHS1 on amazon 3 for $12. I ordered them and shall see if it makes any difference compared to the Sony C10 UHS1 I paid $30 for a few years ago.

Then there are the CF cards which are so expensive for the high speed rated chips. My Canon 20D is extreamly happy with the high speed chips and I hope it never fails me before the camera drops dead cuz I doubt Id buy a new chip. For the price of the chip I can buy another 20D body.

The more you say, the less people listen.
