Question about Nikon USA Repair

Hi, quick question about the repair estimate form on the Nikon USA site. Will they only repair products that are on the drop-down list? For example, under "Film Cameras" they list the F5 and F6, but not the F100. Does this mean that I can't get that camera repaired from Nikon? Or just that I can't get an automatic estimate from the site?

Same with lenses--I have a good 105 macro that is a couple of generations old and isn't on the list either. Am I out of luck?

Nikon introduced the F100 in 1998 and discontinued it in early 2006. In other words, it has been over a decade since Nikon discontinued the F100. Availability of parts can be an issue. You can always give Nikon USA a call next week to double check it.

As we have discussed here recently, Authorized Photo Services in Chicago is an excellent alternative repair service, independent of Nikon USA. You can always check with them and see whether they are able to repair your items. Their web site URL is Nikon Camera Repair:

Professional Nikon Service & Repair - Authorized Photo Service, Inc.

The general rule of thumb is that Nikon will keep parts for another 10 years after a product is discontinued, but that is not a guarantee. Used F100 are not that expensive. Therefore, most likely the F100 is not worthwhile to repair unless that particular F100 has sentimental value to you. Typically it is cheaper to find a replacement.

Good luck.
