vanalder
I'm trying to find someone who does antique camera repair, specifically for 1953 Cannon Rangefinder IV-SB and Cannon Lens 50/1.8 I have a stuck/broken shutter and also would like to have the camera completely refurbed as well. I found one repair facility but the prices were extremely high. I'm looking for someone who is reasonably priced and reputable. Thank You for your help in advance! glen_h
You don't say how much "extremely high" is. From Canon: Canon IVSB Price Guide: estimate a camera value the camera (body) might be worth about $100 with a working shutter. Compared to many later cameras, these are fairly simple internally, but it still takes some hours of fine work to get the apart, cleaned, relubricated, and then put back together. At a reasonable hourly rate, it is hard to see doing that for less than $100. Once done, though, you should have a pretty nice camera that should work well for many years. There are fewer things that can go wrong with the lens. Good luck! -- glen
glen_h
I have a Canon IID2, with lens, that I got for about $200. The shutter seems to work, times close enough for me. As well as I know, no shutter pinholes. You might see what bodies you can find to use with your (presumed) working lens. That might cost less than fixing yours. The prices don't always correspond to the usefulness of the camera. By the way, the black body IVSB in average condition goes for over $1000. Likely works about as well, but are rarer, and so considered more valuable. -- glen
