Nikon F2 shutter problem

Recommended Posts

Evening everyone,

Today an old friend returned home. My first F2 and the original MD-2 are back. I bought this in 1977 as I was just getting started in the newspaper business while still in high school. It was a major investment, I could have bought my car three times for what I spent on this. When I left a job in another state I foolishly left a trusted friend behind and have been looking for it ever since. Found it today with the same person who has had all this time. I couldn't wait to check things out and when I ran through the shutter speeds naturally the slower speeds were dragging. Everything cycled through until I got to one second and now it's stuck. The shutter simply hasn't completed it's cycle and I'm not able to wind it. Is there something simple to be done to get it moving again? I'll be sending it to Sover Wong when it fits in his schedule but I'd love to put a roll or two through it. I've got several F2 bodies in good shape but so there is no hurry and if I am better served leaving it alone so be it. Thanks.

Has the mirror returned back to its lower position? If not, a possible culprit would be the mirror bumper foam having deteriorated and got sticky, so that the mirror is now being hold "glued" in the upper position and of course everything is blocked. Try and gently push the mirror downward to check whether it gets free.
