Screen Protector Preferences

The screen protector on my D800 is in bad shape(a couple of cracks and some abrasions), and my D600 doesn't have one at all.

I've put genuine Nikon protectors on older cameras(I came into a bunch for both D200s and D300s, and went through and replaced all of mine) and they are quite a nice product. Unless I happen to catch newer ones for $1 each on a "table sale" at the local store, though, the prices can be eye-popping for genuine Nikon ones.

Of course, generic ones abound on Ebay.

What do you all think in general? Do you buy Nikon, generic, or go "naked"? On one hand, I hate to take a $1K camera(D800) or $600 camera(D600) and not protect it or spoil the excellent screen with a less-than-great 3rd party one, but at the same time $30 for a genuine Nikon protector is hard to swallow.

The snap-on Nikon screen protectors were not very reliable. I've lost them a couple of times, and they are plastic, which scratches easily. Now I use Gorilla Glass protectors, which cost under $7 on Amazon. There are also extremely tough plastic films which protect just as well against scratches, although perhaps not as well against impact.
