sami_palta1
Hello All, Lightroom 4.4 doesn't open Nikon NEF RAW files. Is it a version problem ? If I upgrade to a higher version does the problem solved? Thanks
Dieter Schaefer
From which camera? Once a new version of LR has been released, support for the older generally ceases and the older version will no longer open RAW files from cameas that appear on the scene after the release of a new LR version. Here's a list of which is the earliest LR version that supports a given camera: Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Ed_Ingold
You have a badly outdated version of Lightroom, currently v7.4 (Adobe Camera Raw 10.4). You can use the free program, Adobe DNG Converter, to create DNG files from D5 RAW images, which can be opened by your version of Lightroom. Adobe doesn't disable older versions, it just doesn't update them, and changes to ACR are not backwards compatible. The root cause of your problem is that NEF files from the D5 aren't compatible with Lightroom 4.4. You can stay current on both Lightroom and Phoroshop through the Creative Cloud program, which costs $10/month for that combination.
digitaldog
Just convert to DNG with Adobes free tool . Lots of advantages too on top of the fix if you want to go there. ben_hutcherson
As said, LR 4 is too old to support D5 RAW files. If you want a perpetual license and not an annual subscription, there is always Lightroom 6 but I'm not sure if Adobe will still sell it to you. They were nice enough to throw those of us who are holdouts a bone back in the spring and add support for several current cameras on the market, including the D850 and A7RIII, but we were told a the time that would be the last update. In any case, it will certainly support the D5.
