Organizing my photos/galeries

Recommended Posts

I have been very remiss in trying to reorganize all of my work here since it was hapahazardly transferred over to this new site. I thnk everything is here now, but it is all so random, I'm unsure.

Today, I again tried to present just my Favorites to a fellow photog and he could not access the link and I could not rearrange the shots within the galleries and prioritize my display.

Then, I think I got him to my Favorites (single shots) but could NOT organize favorite galleries by topic etc.

Where is the EDIT PAGE or Re-Order photographs tab/button? Drag and drop?

How do I order my galleries so that more personal snapshots are lower in rank and don't jump out at a casual visitor?

To say that I have been frustrated by this new site since it was new is grand understatement. All of this organization was so straight-forward and rational in the old site; I am practically to the point of abandoning this and starting over elsewhere, but the sheer volume is daunting.

I would greatly appreciate a guide to a Site Guide or Instructions to give this one more try....

Ray...There is no Site Guide that I know of but if you click on your avatar,go to the Portfolio on the drop down menu and that will bring you a second drop down menu.Go to Galleries and you will have the sort out options for your galleries and for the photos in those galleries.Hope this helps!

I share your pain OCU. I've got maybe 200 galleries and 3000 photos. Ever since new site came on-line, I have been trying to get a grip on things. Finally gave up and now check in 1x/month for a few minutes whereas I previously spent at least one hour per day posting images, commenting on photos and rating photos.

Frigo, Thanks! That actaully got me a FIRST step in reorganization. I think my tenure here indicates how much I have appreciated this site from very early on; but judging from my recent activity, anyone can see that I have been frustrated into silence.

NOW, I need to figure out how to capture a gallery or individual photo LINK so that I can send it in an email or post it elsewhere. I think I did it once, but usually wind up with a general "Library" link that is not helpful to the recipient. I thought this new version was supposed to simplify things.

It would appear that you can mouse over one of your images and the file identifier will pop up, you can copy and paste that into an email at least. See if this will work for you, DSC_2874_1567DSC_2874.JPG | Photo.net

Hi Sandy I can open your link but I can't find the file identifier for photos in my gallery as in your example. This maybe down to my ineptitude.

Ditto! I did copy a link once, but don't recall what page I was on that I successfully lifted the link data. I treid a couple of files just now in various pages, and could only get a link up in the top bar. I sent the link in an email to myself and it opened...but Photo.net was open in the background, so I can't swear it was a "live" link.

Ray your link worked OK, nice pic.

I will have another go at saving a link.

Went to Portfolio / Photos / this time, opened the photo by left clicking, right clicked and selected copy address from the pop up box and pasted here https://d6d2h4gfvy8t8.cloudfront.net/18471273-orig.jpg - Let me try once more. Same process, https://d6d2h4gfvy8t8.cloudfront.net/18471139-orig.jpg

Yesterday when I did the mouse over it worked - this morning not, don't know what the difference is, and these addresses are quite different than yesterday.

Please let me know if the links work. I'll see if I can replicate whatever it was I did yesterday to get the mouse over to work, as that was easier.

Good morning, sleepy head! ;->

Yup, that link worked but you are experiencing the same on-and-off capability that I have found. (Great colors/saturation in that shot!) I think it might be the page (gallery or Favorites etc) from which it is drawn. And we still have to confirm that a non-member can open them.

And don't ask about trying to navigate to this Forum page...it took forever, despite the emailed link. Also, I have discovered a SECOND PERSONAL profile page by clicking on my "OCULUSNY" Account screen name (as opposed to clicking on my avatar) up in the right corner. It has a separate set of name/address, and also has a DIRECT LINK web address pre-filled in that appears to be my home page here.

Next, How does one capture a GALLERY link so to send an entire Portfolio Gallery in an email?

Don't think you can get that to work due to the sheer size of the potential gallery. That said you might want to explore the Client Beta - don't need it so haven't tried it, but it would appear to provide what you want.

Hi, yes it works to open in cloudfront.net but not for the PN page shot as your first link. But don't worry about this on my account, thanks for trying........................GC.

Hello I will attempt to answer your question.

Step 1: Go to the gallery

Step 2: Notice our link in the upper left next to social media sharing buttons "get link"

Step 3: click on link, button should change status to "copied" which in this case is the following link: Albany NY Views | Photo.net which will be in a state where you can then

Step 4: paste link wherever you wish to share it

See below:

OK what am I doing wrong I can't get to the screen you are showing, and your answer does not address how to copy and paste a link to a individual photo in a portfolio.

@gerald - it appears your screenshots are in the admin section for your account. Share the gallery (collection of photos) you would need to go to the public gallery. IF you do not have social sharing clicked off in your admin preferences - then the above example provided would not apply because those links (facebook, twitter, etc) would not appear on your galleries or your photos.

Easiest way to accomplish what you are looking to do (sharing a gallery of photos) is to simply grab the URL from the browser. Example for Gerald would be the following gallery which I grabbed from the browser : Flowers | Photo.net

UPDATE, clicking on your Screen Name (OCULUSNewYork for me) at the top of THIS page wil take you to the personal profile described in the prior post. Note sure of the purpose of this additional info page, but it does contain your direct link to your page. For me:

Hi Glenn, Long time (since Rolleiflex 6000 days, no talk!) I'm on my way out the door, but will try this "Copy" tab, although, like the others, I am NOT a social media kibitzer; I am referring to embedding specific shot or gallery links in emails.

Also, Can the address of a Gallery be copied so that one might send a link to a discrete gallery in an email?

And lastly for now, my "home page" here is a God-awful hodge-podge of things that have been uploaded over several months. Is there some way to have a particluar Gallery or my Favorites open up as my Home Page? Or at least, how do I edit or rearrange those persistent recent shots that do?

Cheers,

Ray Hull

Pretty much nothing is working on my pages. I've left 4-5 messages in the forum listing most of the issues. I have 174 images, but my profile page shows I have 76, I can't rearrange my 'featured' images page, and they don't all show up when chosen. All the images I loaded last week disappeared from trending and recent pages, so I've removed to reload later when/if things are normalized(?).

I've tagged your account for tech support to look into - this is the only report of these issues so far...hope to have it sorted out soon.
