Are All "Official" Exposure Indexes Wrong?

Recommended Posts

Keep these coming, Marc! Your post series is becoming a good history of photography as seen from the time.

I remember all the fuss about the ASA index change, and now can see why it happened. The metering articles come out almost as obsessive to a current amateur.

AP was turning to rollfilm and it was news. I also appreciated the Photo Contest of the Cigar Institute - wonder what were the winning entries. They had to show "a man smoking a cigar with enjoyment and relaxation". At least two political incorrectnesses, mysoginia and smoking, in a short paragraph.

The article on space photography is very interesting for those watching the history of technology. There are mentions of things that were to come quite soon; a lot more accurate than Lloyd Varden's predictions. What I don´t get are corner reflectors, these look to me as optical or radar targets instead of what the article claims, devices to take "pictures of planets". Sure I must be missing some science there. The author was a Canon Vt fan.

In the ads I spotted the Konica III, Retina Reflex, Contaflex and old Ilford films among many old acquaintances. I got to shoot FP3!

Thanks for these wonderful posts.
