Film Camera Week for July 20

Recommended Posts

Really enjoying the images everyone. The hot weather sometimes slows me down (I did cut my lawn in the heat yesterday, though), but a technique I use when I want to take photos on hot days is to put my equipment in one of the cars (in shade) and let it gradually come up in temperature. Usually in 30 minutes or so I can take it into the heat and humidity without it fogging up. For rainy days I might get out a tripod and do some counter top photography. Or take drive and roll down a window enough to get a photo without getting the camera wet.

Two more from last week's roll of HP5 in Pyrocat HD, with a Canonet QL17.

I believe most in this forum have one of these cameras, so it's probably a bit preaching for the choir, but what a lovely little camera. The more I use it, the more I appreciate it. Still prefer SLR-style focussing, but for size, weight and optical quality, it's pretty hard to dismiss this little rangefinder.

I have my usual Rheinscapes here. The first set is from the Kiev 4am. I used the 35mm Jupiter 12. I like these moderate wide lenses. The last two are from a Zeiss Ikon 520/2 6x9. I haven'T used it in years and I thought I plugged the light leaks, but not all and not always.. also film flatness issues too. I will have to spring for the better scanning negative holders. AS it is with me this year.. the 35mm is Kentmere and the MF is Acros... both souped in d76 1:1.

Nice work, wogears. I have the Adaptall version of that lens and I really like it. Currently it's mounted on my Nikon FE-2 which is waiting on film.

Mine is the Adaptall 2 as well. I also have a mount for my OM-1 and OM-2.

From the last roll of Rollei Retropan 320 Soft I shot with the Leica IIIf + Summarit, a few months back.

HC-110 developer exaggerates the already excessive grain of this film. It's better used for vintage-style portraits in my opinion.

Rick, is that the church of Waalwijk by any chance? The photo sure has a very distinct retro-look, quite lovely.

Yes, it's the Saint John the Baptist church, built in the 1920s and it's architecture is based on the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and San Vitale in Ravenna.

While I’m sure Les’s (Wogears) portrait owes a nod to the lens he used, it would be a shame not to at least mention the lovely face and expression of his subject, the use of warm colors, the lighting employed and the angle he shot at, which draws the viewer to the woman shown.

Some comments read a little like the old joke about the viewer who loves a photo and tells the photographer he must have a really good camera to have taken such a great photo.

We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!

Yeah, sometimes things seem like dpreview wherever I go, but I hesitate to complain. I complain about other stuff, mind, but the gear thing? Not too much on this site.

I'm still really impressed with the results you get from that XA. No wonder people squabble over them.

Should go to Waalwijk then some time, looks quite interesting :)

Be sure to check the visiting days/hours ;)

It's open more often for visitors for the next two months.
