bgelfand
An interesting Video and an article: How Phase Detection Autofocus Works - Photography Life That present an introductory explanation of autofocus on DSLR cameras. Although the video and article use Canon equipment, it should be applicable to Nikon cameras as well.
Andrew Garrard
I watched the video, but I didn't think it added all that much - and it has a couple of misconceptions, such as the sensors at 45 degrees being for diagonal lines. (They're not - they're for the "high precision" f/2.8 sensors.) YMMV. The article's good, though.
steve_g2
Can't stand that guys chatty vids. I'd rather do a one minute read than a 10 minute "influencer" video.
Andrew Garrard
Can't stand that guys chatty vids. I'd rather do a one minute read than a 10 minute "influencer" video. It does seem to be the way the world is going, possibly because some content producers find it less effort to sit in front of a camera than ramble than to sit at a keyboard (and, like I do, ramble). I can't really begrudge them that - if it makes a difference in the information being imparted, and sometimes there are things that can be explained better in a video. But I can do some reading in public, or in the toilet, or at my desk at work between other tasks. Requiring that I insert headphones in all of these cases and therefore cutting myself off from my surroundings is a negative - I'd far rather have a block of text that I can go through at my own pace. And like Steve, apparently, I'm a fast reader - certainly faster than most people talk.
