philosli
I have several dozens rolls of unmounted slides. So I bought a box of Kaiser slide mounts (shown here). The box said the plastic mounts are to be used by Kaiser slide micromounter. I guess the mounter is something like this, but unfortunately it was sold. I don't have the mounter. And I tried to hand-press the two pieces together to no avail. The pins on one piece fit to the holes of the other piece of each pair of mount. However, I cannot make them stay together. Basically the pins do not grab anything, just fall in and out of the holes easily. Is there a way to use these mounts without a micromounter? Many thanks in advance! c_watson1
I've always used Gepe mounts but weren't some of the lab-mounted Kaisers a one-shot affair? Pop the mount open and the little rivet-like pin lost what held the mount together. Did you buy a box of used mounts?
philosli
I believe the mounts are never used.
Silent Street
Use a small rubber jeweller's mallet working around the mount to seat the edges together. Once seated they are like that for all time: removal will cause breakage of the pins. Kaiser mounts are quite old by industry standards. Gepe is worth investigating but in terms of global availability all slide mounts are getting a bit hard to find now. rodeo_joe1
If you have a small-tipped soldering iron, you can melt the heads of the pins into the holes once assembled. Or as suggested above, use a small punch to physically flatten the pins. The soldering iron method will be quicker. The proper mounting press has metal protrusions that correspond with the pins/holes and automatically rivets the two halves of the mount together.
