ShunCheung
Red Tail Hawk under attack by Sparrow Reminds me a 747 carrying the space shuttle, but the payload is facing backward in this case.
DavidTriplett
but the payload is facing backward in this case. No, not really. They're both flying in the same direction. The sparrow did land several times on the hawk's back (while both in flight), pecking at it's head. I have a couple of images where you can see the damage to the feathers on the hawk's back where the sparrow took hold. It was apparent the sparrow's much smaller size, maneuverability, and speed was no match for the hawk, who tried, in vain, to avoid the attacks. Not sure what precipitated the engagement. The hawk was staying in the close vicinity of its nest with two chicks.

DawsonPointers
Definitely an image that would never pass muster for Monday in Nature (or any nature photo contest): Dieter, I like the effect of shooting through something and you did a great job with this one. Not every image needs to be tack sharp. I can imagine that this is fog or shooting through tall grasses.
Dieter Schaefer
I can imagine that this is fog or shooting through tall grasses. Not grass but foliage from some bushes; I though that in B&W it gives a fairly good resemblance of fog. The main reason why I won't submit it to a nature contest is a different one though - it's the same bird twice in a composite image.
