billangel Posted July 11, 2018 Share Posted July 11, 2018 Things I didn't know until last week: swans look like flamingos in infrared (whereas ducks and geese look normal). Unlike the other two, this isn't channel swapped - the swan looks pink on the camera's LCD too. (The sun was going down, so this could be more spectacular...) [ATTACH=full]1251353[/ATTACH] It is also interesting to note that while swans look pink like flamingos in infrared, flamingos look white like swans in infrared! The beta-carotene in the flamingo's feathers, which gives them their pink appearance, is also highly reflective of infrared radiation from the sun. So flamingos appear white when photographed with a infrared filter like the Hoya R72 720nm filter in front of the lens.
