dcstep
BTW, I ordered mine last week and I've already sold my EF 500mm f/4L IS II for $400 more than I paid for it a few years ago. I also sold my 500mm series I for a small profit. These super-telephoto lenses really do have an "investment" quality to them. They've turned out to be the least expensive part of my photography business, except for cost of capital.
Ed_Ingold
Congratulations, DCSTEP. The 400/2.8 makes sense for the kind of wildlife photography you do. I place a value on "fun factor" as a supplement to commercial use, but $12K would be a stretch. It appears you are keeping your 100-400 GM, which is still on my short list. Yes, the 100-400mm, with both the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverter is incredible.
