As usual, up to 3 photos 1000 pixels max

As mentioned, i went to the zoo last week.

Wanted to photograph the lions. (somehow a part of the zoo i tend to skip)

I do need to buy me a longer lens, the 70-200 is not long enough,

So if someone wants to donate a 100-400 that they are not using ..

Did not crop the shots, somehow it doesnt look right when i do.

here's a Lion for you all, they just got fed. He was holding a big bone between his front paws.

Im a beginner photographer, EOS SL1 and soon to be learning PS/LR or ON1 and start shooting in raw for better editing. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! :) You're off to a good start, for sure. Since you asked, all of your photos could use a tad more exposure, and the rainbow show could use more than a tad, but underexposing does make the rainbow more visible. If you had one of the programs you mentioned, you could lighten the shadows without affecting the highlights, which would be ideal.

I'd also suggest not worrying too much about "learning" the programs. Just jump in and play with them until you get results you like. LR is non-destructive, so you can always undo anything that goes wrong. Not sure about the current version of PS; older versions were destructive, so changes were permanent. And I don't know about On1, at all.

Welcome to the forum. RAW will give you the best control for editing in post. As far as tips, if there is something you need help in understanding and cant find answers searching the web and/or you think the subject may be of interest just post. Some study on techniques, practice and experimentation and your skill will evolve so just have fun as you pursue the type of photography that interests you. The more you participate the more you get out of the site. :)

Cheers, Mark
