Sanford
Those ultra high speed motor drives and rapid light show like flashes going off from dozens of cameras...how many identical photos does a photojournalist need!?
Ed_Ingold
Is it true that mechanical shutters have been banned from White House newsers? If that policy expands, photographers will have hard choices to take - use a real mirrorless camera or a Nikon/Canon P&S ;) The handwriting is on the wall. I don't understand why flash is necessary in those situations. We see flash use in videos taken at the same time, using continuous lights (if any) that are relatively low intensity. I use flash for grip-and-grab events only in extreme circumstances, for example when subjects are backlit by stage lighting. You can argue that a flash freezes action, but if flash is used for fill, subject motion causes double images. If the flash dominates available light, you get pasty faces against a dark background. Shooting from the extreme left or right might warrant using flash, because video lighting is from the front in a newser.
Norma Desmond
how many identical photos does a photojournalist need!? The shots, taken seconds or split-seconds apart, won’t be identical. They will each capture important differences in gesture and expression. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
Sandy Vongries
Spray & pray instead than skill and judgment, don't think so. There is always luck.
BeBu Lamar
I am wondering how large those photos have to be? If for newspaper or even magazine and with today modern cameras wouldn't they be able to shoot without using any flash?
Moving On
Political photogs always looking for an unflattering photo to sell...... Spray and pray is good for that.....
Supriyo
I am wondering how large those photos have to be? If for newspaper or even magazine and with today modern cameras wouldn't they be able to shoot without using any flash? They can probably get away with using a APS-C or full frame camera and high ISO without flash, but certain constraints will get imposed. For example, slower shutter speed would risk motion blur when the subject or speaker is moving. These are high profile photo shoots, and they probably don't want to take risk, just my guess.
