Peak Design Anchor replacement

If you purchased any Peak Design strap on or after August 15, 2017 and before June 5, 2018, chances are you have the V3 Peak Design anchors that Peak Design has now updated to V4 and is replacing for free. The V3 connectors use a thinner cord that Peak Design considers as having too high a failure rate (7 reported cases for 1,000,000 anchors sold). You can read more details here: 2018 Anchor Update. On that page, there is also a link to a survey you need to fill out to get free replacements for your V3 anchors (and apparently for the original V1 anchors as well).

A wide webbing camera strap that ends in a plastic button and a length of thin string!?

 

That's why most OEM-supplied camera straps have a metal split-ring on the end of them.

Probably for the same reason anyone thought the BlackRapid (and similar) D-ring swivel screw-in connectors were a good idea? Except that, quite frankly, I think Peak Design has currently the best connector system and the best cross-body strap there is - these "threads of cord with a plastic button" work very well and unlike other systems don't get in the way as much, are easily disconnected and connected, work with most arca-swiss plates and don't block the lens or camera tripod mount - I have them on all my cameras (I almost exclusively use the "cuff" wrist strap and occasionally the "slide" camera strap. I trust them a lot more than I would trust the BlackRapid connector. FWIW, I considered the CarrySpeed setup to be a better solution than BlackRapid but AFAIK they lost a lawsuit against BlackRapid and can't sell their straps anymore in the US. I still have two floating around but compared to the Peak Design solutions, they are bulky and cumbersome.
